Dear Parents,

I hope you're enjoying this beautiful weather!  Hard to believe we're so close to Spring Break.  This week we are finishing up our study of Cesar Chavez in Social Studies and starting to review Science concepts from the beginning of the year.  In STEM lab, we did an activity where the students sorted and classified the plants and animals native to Georgia into the Mountain, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Swamps/Marshes, and Atlantic Ocean regions.  Remember that your child can always review on www.brainpop.com or www.studyjams.scholastic.com   So far, I've only had two students turn in the Study Jams checklist completed for 20 extra Class Dojo points.  Please encourage your student to keep working on it!!

In ELA we have been focused on comparing and contrasting characters in books written by the same author.  Yesterday we focused on Chrysanthemum and Owen  by Kevin Henkes.  We have finished our extended text Maniac McGee and the students are working on some writing related to Jerry Spinelli's excellent novel.

In Math we are still learning about Time and Calendars and now have moved into Capacity with liters, milileters, grams, kilograms, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.  If you do any cooking or baking with your child, please take the opportunity to reinforce these concepts.

Thanks to those of you who have returned your child's report card!  After you have taken out your child's report card, please send back in the envelope.

       Dear Parents,

In case your student has not shown you Study Jams cartoon clips, power points, and songs about Science and Math, I want to tell you that it is awesome!!!  Here is a checklist so your students can keep track of what they have reviewed already.  I'm awarding 20 Class Dojo points for any student who watches them all and has you sign their checklist by April 21st!  If your student is not able to watch the reviews at home, they can work on them here in homeroom and I'll check them off.

Practice test link for the Milestone!!

Dear Parents,

Below is a link that allows you and your students to experience the tools available with online testing. There you can see the format of the Milestone, but the questions are not aligned to the rigor of the standard so the actual Milestone is expected to be more challenging.

 Dear Parents,

Monday we will be celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday so your child is welcome to wear pajamas, but please NO slippers since they are a safety hazard and we don't want any kiddos getting hurt!  Also, if you are able to I will have Mystery Reader slots open from 12:20-1:00 which would give four parents the opportunity to bring in their favorite Dr. Suess book and share it with our class.  Just e-mail me if you can come in!

Also, we are scheduled to have our Heat test next Wednesday.  I will send home a study guide next week, but your students can review their vocabulary (heat, thermal energy, temperature, Celsius, insulator, conductor, insulation, and friction) and our notes in their journals this weekend.  If they are able, students can also review Heat on www.brainpop.com (Spalding, tigers) and Bill Nye's Heat video at United Streaming or Youtube.

       Thanks for your support!!
