Dear Parents,

Please send in the yellow Fulton County enrollment survey form as soon as you can next week.  Thanks to those of you who already have!  These surveys help the county determine how many personnel and resources to allot to each school.  It also helps the administration here at SDC determine how many teachers are needed per grade level and what resources may be needed.  So, long story short, it's a VERY important piece of information that helps us plan for next year.  Please let me know if you have any questions or need another form.

Thanks for all of your wonderful support!!

    Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is the math portion of the Milestones.  Please continue to help your child get a good night's rest and a breakfast with some protein and encourage them to try their best.  We hope all of our students will go carefully, use their scratch paper to help them, and check their answers!  If your child would like to review on IXL, Study Jams, or iReady tonight, that would be fine as long as it does not stress them out.

Also, if any of you are interested in joining our field trip on May 7th to the Fernbank Museum, you are welcome to do so.  Please understand that you would need to drive yourself and pay for admission since we will not have room on the bus.  We would love to have you join us if you can!!

Finally, I need to let you know that we are completely out of KLEENEX.  If you are able to send some in, we would really appreciate it!!!

Thanks so much for all of your support!

        Dear Parents,

The kids did a FANTASTIC job yesterday!!!  They were focused, read each questions carefully, and double checked their answers.  We were so proud of all of our students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please remember to have your child here on time after a good breakfast on Monday when we continue the Milestones.  It is stressful to the kids if they come in and are rushed and, if they are too late, they will miss taking the Milestones with our class and will have to stay in the Media Center.  :(  We will not be sending homework home over the next two weeks so that the kids get lots of time to rest and refresh after school, but your child can always review on www.brainpop.com, www.studyjams.scholastic.com, Tumblebooks, and IXL, and iReady.

Yesterday afternoon our field trip forms for the Fernbank Museum and the IMAX movie "Humpback Whales" went home.  We will be going on 5/7 and are asking for a $22 donation to help us cover the cost of this trip.  Usually we collect funds at the beginning of the year, but this year we did not.  Ms. Johnson wanted us to collect funds closer to the actual field trip dates.  Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Also, picture packets went home yesterday as well.  If you like your child's photos, please follow the directions on the envelope and send your money in by the deadline.  If you would rather not purchase the photos, please send the packets back in and we will return them to the company.

Finally, today I'm sending home information on Mercer University's College for Kids summer programs.  They offer a Budding Writers and Math Wizards course that truly rock!  My daughter participated in the writing program two-years ago and still talks about it.  They are also very helpful so if your child is interested, but you have some doubts, call anyway and ask about your concerns.  They may be able to help you.

Thanks for all of your support!!

Milestone Update

   Dear Parents,

Thank you to those who have sent in class snacks already!  We really appreciate it.  :)  Our first day of the Milestone will be this Thursday, 4/16 so please make sure your student has a good breakfast with some protein (eggs, cheese, bacon, peanut butter) to help hold them since we'll likely be having snack a little later than they are used to.  Also, we just found out that any student who is tardy will not be able to join the class until after BOTH sections of the Milestone have been finished for that day.  So please, please, please make sure your student is on time every day over the next two-and-a-half weeks!!

Here is a link to some sample items from a few years ago that we have been reviewing in class:

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks for all of your support!

Dear Parents,

In preparation for Milestones next week, I wanted to ask for snack donations.  Our students will be working hard and will get hungry!  If you can, please send in a sweet or salty snack that does NOT have nuts. Some suggestions would be:  pretzels, goldfish, animal crackers, bananas, grapes, cheese crackers, apple slices, Ritz crackers, etc.  We have 17 students in our class and I will pass out any snacks to all of our students - thanks in advance for your contributions!!

Also, I'm very excited to let you know that in addition to the two High Tech High Touch in-house field trips we have had so far this year on Minerals/Rocks/Soils and Heat, we will be having another field trip to Fernbank Museum in May!  I will send out more details later, but I wanted to let you know now that we will be exploring animal adaptations, habitats, and fossils through the museum and an IMAX movie.  :)

Thanks so much for all your support this year!  I hope everyone has had a wonderful Spring Break!!
