Update for 9/20

 Dear Parents,

We have finished up our Democracy unit and the students did a very nice job presenting their “Roots of Democracy” posters!!  We have moved into learning about the Habitats of Georgia (Mountain, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Wetlands, and Atlantic Ocean) in Science.  The students have done two investigations in class – one about predictions and how sometimes our predictions are incorrect, but that we always learn something anyway (Shapes of Bubbles) and one investigating the living and nonliving things in our school garden.  We discussed how scientists always record their data so they can remember their investigations and so others can learn from their knowledge.

In Math, we will be moving into multiplication and division.  We have started exploring how multiplication is simply repeated addition and how to represent multiplication using arrays (visuals).  Next, we will begin to explore how multiplication and division are related, inverse operations.  Our ultimate goal beyond these understandings is that your child will be able to fluently multiply and divide within 100.  Your support will help your student learn his/her multiplication facts more quickly – thank you for helping your student practice for 10 minutes nightly.

Please have your student work regularly on iReady and IXL in Math to keep reviewing these skills.  Currently in class we will be working on E.1-E.8 and G.1-G.20.

Thanks in advance for your support!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
